The municipality known as the Concejo de Llanes is situated along the northeastern coast of Asturias .

The Cantabrian Sea lies to the north; the Ribadedeva municipality to the east; the Peñamellera Alta y Baja, Cabrales and Onís municipalities to the south; and finally the Cangas de Onís and Ribadesella municipalities to the west. Llanes is also home to a prestigious 18 hole golf course.
